Mixed Media Painting Holidays

Our mixed media painting breaks at Gartmore House are for all abilities – whether you’re a deft hand with a paintbrush or a complete beginner. Personalised instruction by our friendly tutor gives you the chance to either learn from scratch or improve your skills in relaxed company and comfortable surroundings.

You’ll develop your drawing and painting ability and experiment with a wide range of different media. Dependent on the weather, instruction could be indoors in one of the light-filled studios at the House, or outside in the estate’s 75 acres of private land.

What’s included?
Courses are based at Gartmore House; all rooms are en-suite with tea and coffee making facilities and many have wonderful views over Flanders Moss Nature Reserve, towards Stirling. Your course includes full board; all meals are freshly prepared by our chefs. Enjoy a glass of wine as you relax in the dining room looking out over the views and discussing your day’s work. Bar facilities are available during dinner. 5-Night (or more) courses include an optional visit to Loch Katrine (with one hour cruise) or The Scottish Wool Centre in Aberfoyle (transport is provided).

Complimentary transfers from Stirling train station are available on the arrival and departure days (pick-up from the station at 15:30, departs Gartmore House at 10:00).

Tutor Nigel Overton

We are delighted to be working with Nigel Overton to deliver this painting course. Nigel studied Drawing Painting & Printmaking at Loughborough College of Art & Design. He has worked with a wide range of different media but in recent years has mainly worked in acrylics. Whichever medium he has used however, he has always maintained his belief in the importance of drawing, both in his own work and within his teaching of the subject.

Nigel has been fascinated with landscapes and seascapes since his early years as an art student, and drawing and painting continue to provide him with the visual means of expressing his personal and emotional response to an ever-changing subject.

Formerly Head of Art & Design at Benton Park School in Leeds, Nigel now paints professionally and teaches day and residential classes.

Nigel has work in private collections in America, Canada, New Zealand, France, Germany, Netherlands and Australia.

You can find out more about Nigel’s work by visiting his website, Overton Fine Arts.

Our team is here to help with any queries that you may have about the course. You may also like to take a look at our FAQs blog post to see if we answer any of your queries there. Don’t forget that our team are happy to assist with any questions – please feel free to get in touch.
