Woodwork with Sticks and Stones Furniture
Take a break and get creative with wood at Gartmore House. David Mackay’s woodworking courses will teach beginners and intermediates new tools skills and how to get the best results from your tools along with basic knowledge about different hard and soft woods. All the wood used in the collection is storm damaged deadfall, or purchased from a not-for-profit wood management yard in Oakley, Fife.
Beginners 5 Day Course – Making Bird House or Spice Rack
On this 5 day course you will be able to make a bird table on a stand and/or a small tea or spice rack. You will be showing how to safely use hand and power tools so you can continue making furniture at home. There is no previous experience needed to join this course and all materials needed all will be supplied. During this course you will be shown how to cut wood, sand wood and join wood to create a strong piece of work that will last years.
Intermediates 5 Day Course – Making a Mirror
On this 5 day course you will be able to make a mirror for you bathroom or living space. To make the mirror a basic understand of tools is needed and all materials will be supplied. If you already have a basic understand of wood and tools this course will build on these skills. On this course you will learn how to router and make the perfect join with wood. Along with how to cut glass mirror to the size needed for you mirror.
David grew up in a small village outside Stirling and has always had a love for the hills, the woods and the animals that surrounded it. David opened Sticks and Stones, a small eco-aware furniture business that endeavors to produce pieces that are carbon minimal in their collection of materials and their construction processes. David is always teaching friends and family new skills surrounding wood.

A £100 per person deposit is required to secure your booking. Full payment is due 6 weeks prior to arrival. For breaks booked within 6 weeks, full payment is required at time of booking. Breaks are subject to availability and subject to change.
